The two wolves in our hearts   Leave a comment

Re-blogged from:

The two wolves in our heart
Ken LaRive – Lafayette Political Buzz Examiner

It is attributed to the Nanticoke Indians…

One evening, an elderly
Cherokee brave told his
grandson about a battle that
goes on inside of all people.

He said “My son, the battle inside our hearts and minds are
like having two wolves inside of us…

One wolf is evil…

It is anger,
envy, jealousy, sorrow,
regret, greed, arrogance,
self-pity, guilt, resentment,
inferiority, lies, false pride,
uncontrolled superiority, and ego.

The other is a good wolf…

It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity,
humility, kindness, benevolence,
empathy, generosity,
truth, compassion and hard won faith.”

The grandson thought about
it for a minute, and then asked
his grandfather:

“Which wolf wins grandpa?…”

The old Cherokee simply replied,
“The one that you feed, my son.”

I immediately saw that happiness was not mentioned. I suppose happiness, as compared to joy, is of a selfish kind, where true joy is selfless. I also saw that it was mentioned that inferiority and superiority are considered to both be in the bad wolf… Perhaps this indicates that we should think of ourselves as having strength and weakness at the same time, as those two ideals might be considered absolutes. And seeing “truth” there, just warmed my heart… “Hard won faith.” too, is a concept that means we have to study with our intellect, and have faith in both our ability, and for what we can not see.

But it got me to thinking… Isn’t everything in this word the same? For instance, if we do not like the violence and immorality in the movies, or find that truth is not shown on the news, or that elected officials are lying… do not go to see the movie, turn off your television, and see to it they are not reelected… It is the wolf you feed, and that determines your life from every aspect. If you do not pay that wolf, feed him, he will starve to death…

If you look at your children, and react to the bad wolf inside of them, that wolf will grow to be more valid. That wolf will be the one to react in their reality, and if left unchecked, for the rest of their lives… sounds too simple? Isn’t our reality what we feed it to be?

I want that bad wolf to die inside of me. And I will work for that for the rest of my days…

Merry Christmas to all with hope and love!

From my family to yours… Carina

I took these pics at West Coast Falconery which is run by Kirk Selinger a licensed falconer and his apprentice Denise Disharoon. Kirk is a former National Geographic videographer, who now spends his time raising hawks, owls and vultures. The following is a marriage between the Looney Tunes’ cartoon character who best depicts the average hunter and Dr. Seuss’ lyrics that so perfectly describe them.

You’re a mean one, Mr. Fudd.
You really are a heel,
You’re as cuddly as a cactus, you’re as charming as an eel, Mr. Fudd.
You’re a bad banana with a greasy black peel!

You’re a monster, Mr. Fudd.
Your heart’s an empty hole.
Your brain is full of spiders, you have garlic in your soul, Mr. Fudd.
I wouldn’t touch you with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole!

You’re a vile one, Mr. Fudd.
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetness of a seasick crocodile,
Mr. Fudd.
Given the choice between the two of you,
I’d take the seasick crocodile.

You’re a foul one, Mr. Fudd.
You’re a nasty wasty skunk.
Your heart is full of unwashed socks;

Resurgence of hunting is “welcome, overdue”   Leave a comment

I can’t believe most of the “crazy” news that come from the U.S.! I mean TIME Magazine was once a publication with articles echoing globally. Since Snowden and and the leak of the PRISM program, news stories originating from America are closely scrutinized. Too bad TIME printed this article without checking their facts

Exposing the Big Game

[Some people actually agreed with the Time article, if you can believe that!]

http://democratherald.com/news/opinion/editorial/editorial-resurgence-of-hunting-is-welcome-overdue/article_f19d2988-642f-11e3-bcee-0019bb2963f4.html

A recent cover story in Time magazine made the case that hunting is on the verge of making a comeback.

If true, that would be welcome.

Interest in both hunting and fishing in the United States (and even in Oregon, despite the state’s rich outdoors tradition) has been declining for years.

Now, as the article in Time argued, we’re starting to see one of the results: Our forests and wildlands are packed with unsustainable numbers of wild animals — and the critters, starving for habitat, are starting to move in on more urban areas.

States and cities have adopted what appear to be extraordinary measures to deal with the overflow. Consider these examples cited by Time:

— The City Council in Durham, N.C., recently authorized bow hunting for deer inside the city limits to help deal…

Pennsilvania Considering a Bounty on Coyotes   Leave a comment

I wish it were the other way around — higher kill bounties for anti-wolf people and politicians!!

[Talk about backsliding…]

Hunters could cash in on coyotes

By Brad Pedersen

Published: Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, 1:01 a.m.

Pending legislation could make controlling the coyote population lucrative for hunters across Pennsylvania.

The State House approved a bill on Wednesday in a 111-78 vote, which would allow the Pennsylvania Game Commission to place a $25 bounty on coyotes. The bill proposes to use $700,000 for coyote control, meaning the state could pay bounties for up to 28,000 coyotes per year.

The bill needs to be approved by the State Senate before it becomes a law. The senate reconvenes on Jan. 7.

If it gets approval from the Senate, the Pennsylvania Game Commission plans to conduct a study on the state’s coyote population and complaints, to determine if a bounty is necessary, according to game commission press secretary Travis Lau.

“Right now, the Game Commission’s stance is we need to wait…

CNN: Please air Earthlings!   Leave a comment

Agree! Air both Earthlings and Blackfish at two different timesl

Our Compass

CNN: Please air Earthlings! For the reasons it was important to air Blackfish, it is important to air Earthlings. Earthling is the most important documentary about how humans USE all animals.

This documentary is the most important documentary for all animals, human and non human. People need to see it. Blackfish shed light on a very dirty little secret. And people responded. We have a very big dirty secret on this planet. We need to expose all animal use for what it is. Please tell CNN, by signing this petition, that airing Earthlings is as important as Blackfish.

The idea that we can enslave, exploit, torture, and kill animals for trivial reasons such as taste, amusement, or fashion is absurd. Please tell CNN to air the most important documentary of our time!

Sane people do not like to hurt animals! People need…

“In my opinion, a society that condones unlimited killing of any species of wildlife for fun and prizes is morally bankrupt.”
~ Dave Parsons, Project Coyote Science Advisory Board

Please join Project Coyote in protest of an indefensible coyote and wolf killing “derby” ironically scheduled on the 40th anniversary of the passage of the Endangered Species Act, our nation’s safety-net for wildlife, that brought wolves back from the brink of extinction. It is imperative that everyone speak out against this atrocity scheduled in just two weeks. Time is ctitical.

This is not hunting but a gratuitous massacre that is legal in Idaho and across the country. Prizes will be offered to contestants who kill the largest wolf and the most female coyotes. Children as young as 10 are encouraged to compete, with prizes being offered to youth from the ages of 10-14.

These competitions are ethically indefensible and ecologically…
